For The Love Of It

Original writing by
Cheryl Barker & Jenny Rae

The play centres on the village of Butterbea, where Matt, a young ambitious developer keen to prove himself to his overbearing father, has an opportunity to make his mark. For the last 18months the villagers have been trying to raise money to save the dilapidated Village Hall, to no avail. This is just the project Matt's been waiting for, but will his vision for a new modern facility be welcomed by the village?

As Matt's plans grow he realises it was never going to be as easy as he thought. He starts to question his own values and has to come to terms with the reality and consequences of his actions on the lives of others. Through tears, frustrations, love and laughter, and a lot of Dirty Dancing, Matt gets a lesson in community spirit, leading to a final decision on what matters more; his father's expectations, or the hearts and minds of the people he has met along the way.
